Dr. Thomas Turcotte

I grew up in north Georgia and completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at ABAC (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College) in Georgia. I then went to Auburn University to complete my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. I have a great love for all things nature and outdoors. In high school and college, I was involved in FFA, agriculture and veterinary medicine. I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy hunting and fishing as much as I can. I also enjoy scuba diving when I can make it to the coast. While I did not grow up in this area, I am from a small town and love it here. I am very happy to be a part of this community and to be able to care for you and your animals.

Dr. Alex Turcotte

I was born and raised in northern Kentucky. I completed my undergraduate degree in Agriculture at EKU. I then went to Auburn University to complete my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. I have always wanted to be a Veterinarian and while I grew up in the suburbs, I always managed to have animals around. I enjoy hiking, fishing, and boating. When I am not outside, I am a big book worm. I am so excited to be here and to get to know all of you and your animals and help provide the best quality of life for them and you.

We met in vet school at Auburn University and were inseparable after the first week. After vet school, we got married and moved to Georgia to a small town, rural, mixed-animal practice. We loved it there and worked at this great practice for 3 years. After having our first son, Sam, and then getting pregnant with our second, Chris, we decided to move closer to family. We were very blessed to find a new home and practice at Harrodsburg Animal Hospital. We are so excited to see our family, clinic and community grow in the coming years. We hope that all of you and your animals will be a part of that.

I love all animals, but my favorites are cats, of which I have 3. I also have a very spoiled crested gecko. McKenzie Stearman

Assistant

Hi there! I’m McKenzie, one of the Veterinary Assistants here at HAH. I joined the team in February of 2023, and I'm very lucky to be a part of such a loving and supportive family. This job has given me the opportunity to learn a lot about vet med, form friendships that will last forever and meet some awesome clients and animals. I grew up spending lots of time on my family farm in Gravel Switch where I developed a deep love for animals and nature, so working in this field was a given. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my son and pets, traveling and reading. I’m very excited to see you all and work with you and your furry babes!

Allyson Yarra

Sincerely the most thorough and kind veterinary staff I've ever encountered. I am so happy we are close by and can be regular patients. When my cat was having urinary issues, they scheduled us to be seen within the hour. You can tell that the well-being of the animals is their number one priority.

Amanda/JamesDunc Roark

The whole staff is nice, great with my more skiddish cat, explains everything in detail and answers any questions or concerns I have. They're all amazing.

I can't say enough about how friendly the entire staff is. Im always greeted with such hospitality. I recently had to make the decision to help my senior cat of 20 years cross the rainbow 🌈 Bridge. Dr. alex never left my side and comforted me during the whole difficult process. She will never know how much that meant to me. Thank you Harrodsburg Animal Hospital for being such a wonderful facility.

Dr Thomas was very caring with Mikey my dog. He Prescribed him some medication to see if it would help his cough/breathing. They got him in within 24 hours when I called to say that he wasn’t any better.

Client Education

Pet Care and Learning

Summer and your pet.

As the temperature climbs and summer days grow longer, it's essential to ensure our furry friends stay safe and comfortable. Just like humans, animals can suffer from heat-related illnesses, and they rely on us to protect them from the scorching sun. Here are some important tips to keep in mind for maintaining animal safety in hot weather.

Firstly, hydration is key. Make sure your pets always have access to fresh, cool water. In extreme heat, water can evaporate quickly, so it's a good idea to check their bowls frequently and refill as needed. Consider placing multiple water sources around your home and yard to ensure they can easily quench their thirst. For outdoor pets, adding ice cubes to their water can help keep it cooler for longer periods.

Secondly, be mindful of the heat when planning outdoor activities. Avoid walking your dog during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 AM and 4 PM. Instead, opt for early morning or late evening strolls when the temperatures are cooler. Remember, asphalt and concrete can become incredibly hot and may burn your pet's paws. If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.

Lastly, create a cool, shaded area where your pets can retreat from the sun. Whether it's a sheltered spot in the yard or a cozy corner indoors with a fan or air conditioning, having a cool place to relax is crucial. Never leave your pets in a parked car, as temperatures inside can skyrocket in minutes, posing life-threatening risk.

By taking these simple but effective precautions, you can ensure your beloved animals stay safe and comfortable during the hot weather. They count on us to keep them healthy and happy, and with a little extra care, we can all enjoy the sunshine together
